A 3D Transformation of Favelas in São Paulo
The Favela 3D project spearheaded by the Brazilian non-profit, Gerando Falcões, is a transformational initiative using social strategies and methodologies to combat poverty and foster socio-economic progress for thousands of Brazilians living in favelas, or slums, in the country’s most populous city. Established in 2021, their Favela 3D program provides a framework to restructure these informal settlements into environments that are Decent, Digital and Developed.
Edu Lyra, a social entrepreneur raised in a poverty stricken favela, is the founder and chief executive officer of Gerando Falcões. The project is dedicated to prioritizing the dignity of families and transforming poverty into a relic of the past.
Supported by a collaborative network of partners, Favela 3D delivers tailored solutions to help families mitigate housing hardships, identify and secure sustainable income opportunities, and tackle social barriers. Together, they aspire to lift 200,000 Brazilians out of poverty, demonstrating the transformative potential of collective action and innovation.
Edu is also a member of the Bloomberg New Economy Dynamic Cities Coalition, and the work of Gerando Falcões is a leading example of the principles embodied in the Dynamic Cities Dashboard.
